In tough times, such as the one we find ourselves in now, businesses must adapt or face fatal consequences.
Whilst it is easy to want change, it is equally important to remember that organisations do not change, people do. And for change to happen, it has to come from each person – from self-awareness to self-actualisation.
I have a confession. I’m a workaholic.
I have travelled to four continents and worked with people of more than 20 nationalities. I have seen the ins and outs of financial services companies, manufacturing companies and professional services firms. The dynamics of each organisation is fascinating, as is the organisational psychology. Each requiring different communication skills and technology to facilitate change. There have been many a time where I have struggled to put my work down at the end of the day to engage with my family and appreciate the better parts that life has to offer.
As we practice social-distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, days meld into nights, and days roll into weeks and months.
You are not alone.
If you feel stressed, unsettled, wary of the uncertain future, I’d like to invite you to have a breather with me.
Close your eyes.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Keep your eyes closed.
This will work as much as the focus you give to it. We live in a world full of distractions. Our mobile phone beeps every other minute and we are flooded with notifications and emails.
Come back here.
Focus.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
What is going well for you?
Take three minutes to think about and be thankful for all that is going well for you.
Write them down.
What’s not going so well for you?
Take three minutes to think about it.
Write them down.
Now let’s prioritise.
Choose one item on that list which you would like to work on today.
Ask yourself one question.
Choose your question carefully. The way you word your question will directly affect the ideas you come up with and determine if you solve the problem you want to solve effectively.
Write down all your ideas.
Line them up and identify which ideas have the highest impact with the least effort.
Write down your action plan. Make it time-bound.
Tell someone and have them hold you accountable.
If you’d like to experience this change process with us, we’d love to have you!
